Harmony Science Academy-Beaumont welcomed visitors from NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Mr. Woodfill, a former Apollo Spacecraft Warning System Engineer who is currently a Automation and Robotics Engineer, shared with the students his real-life struggles and experiences as an engineer at NASA. Mr. Woodfill was the engineer behind the emergency system installed in the space mission, Apollo 13. Dr. Johnson, introduced NASA’s education programs for students and gave out small gifts. Inviting guest speakers such as Mr. Woodfill from NASA gives students an opportunity to experience the different aspects of STEM careers. Once students are introduced to the different scopes available in the STEM field, they will most likely pursue a STEM career, and Mr. Woodfill did just that,” said teacher Mr. Benli. Since the Harmony Public School system is STEM-centered, we believe these guest speakers are vital to the continuance of STEM careers in this global economy.
