Harmony School of Discovery – Houston was selected to host nationally renowned VIVA TECHNOLOGY Student Day Program sponsored by Shell Oil Company. This is the second time Shell graciously sponsored this event at a Harmony campus in Houston. Hosted on November 4 and facilitated by Great Minds in STEM, this event was a full day of STEM related activities in which our students worked alongside local university students who are currently majoring in a variety of STEM fields. 120 students from grades 8th-10th tackled complex problems and designed creative solutions and prototypes during this great event. Teachers and parents of participating students went through an orientation on Thursday November 3, where teachers learned techniques for developing low cost and sustainable ways of developing STEM activities, as well as gaining resources and discover creative techniques on STEM integration into curriculum. A parent orientation followed with parents learning about the many career opportunities that are available to students. They learned about scholarships, STEM related programs in the region, and STEM related activities they can work on in their homes. We would like to thank our corporate partner Shell Oil and non-profit partner Great Minds in STEM for bringing this wonderful program to Harmony again and contributing to our efforts to model and scale STEM education for all students.
