Dr. Jun Guo’s expertise in biochemistry led her to travel the globe, but her passion for teaching landed her in a classroom at Harmony Science Academy in Dallas. “My dream really is teaching,” said the petite, amiable doctor. Guo was born and raised in China where she cultivated a love for science, eventually earning her medical degree. “When I was a little child I wanted to be either a teacher or doctor,” she said. “My dad told me ‘Why don’t you be-come a professor in medical school? That way, you can become a teacher, but you’re still in the medical field?’” She taught medical school for eight years, but a desire increase her science knowledge prompted a return to school. “(While) teaching, I felt I needed to learn more about biology at a detailed level,” she said. Guo earned a Ph.D. in biomedical science from Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences where her research attracted the attention of a professor in the United States. He invited Guo to do her postdoctoral work at the University of Tex-as Southwestern Medical School, bringing her to Dallas in 1995.
