This year 10 students from grades 8th, 9th, and 10th from HSA-North Austin and HSPS participated at the Summer High School Research Program. The program ran from July 11- August 11, and met Monday-Thursday. Participants got the opportunity to learn advanced techniques from STEM educators, and Dr. Yildirim a researcher from the University of Texas at Austin. Students worked towards mastering research skills such as designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating their discoveries with fellow researchers. At the end students presented findings from their research. All students focused their research on finding solutions to road problems, using environmentally friendly materials. Participants had the opportunity to visit the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), to learn more about road safety, as well as UT research labs for an inside look at college level research.
