Governor of Texas Greg Abbott recognized the week of April 24-30 as STEM Education Week in Texas. With that on April 28th, Harmony Public Schools, UH-Downtown, HCC, CITGO, Shell, CenterPoint Energy, Workforce Solutions and many other like minded organizations came together to organize the 4th Annual STEM Education Day. Held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, STEM Education Day consisted of Breakout Sessions, Panel Discussions, Resource Fair, plus Keynote Address from Duncan Klussmann. Workforce panels and breakout sessions provided the attendees with the opportunity to learn more about STEM industry, resources, teaching techniques, and STEM focused classroom activities. At the resource fair organizations were able to display their products, while classroom leaders learned how those products could be used in the classroom. Harmony School of Innovation-El Paso, STEM Leader/Educator Mehmet Gokcek was presented with an award in recognition of his support of STEM Educational Initiatives. Mr. Gokcek was also part of the share-a-thon where other Harmony educators and students presented about project based STEM teaching and learning happening at Harmony.
